Killbuck Swamp
Killbuck Swamp Preserve is a 443-acre wildland near downtown Killbuck, Ohio. It consists of swamp, marsh and woodland. This preserve was made possible with the partnership of Arc of Appalachia and Ohio Public Works’ Clean Ohio grant program. Killbuck Swamp is composed of five sites-Quarry Bluff, Turtle Pond, Spatterdock Pond, Crane Swamp and Bowfin Bottoms.
Trail Opening Event! May 4th, 2024, 9am - 12pm: There is a 1.0-mile loop hiking trail at Quarry Bluff (10114 SR 520, Killbuck) which takes you up 200 feet to an old quarry that has been taken back by nature over the past ~70yrs. Turtle Pond sits a quarter of a mile east of Quarry Bluff on CR 621 (W. Front St. in Killbuck). Turtle Pond has a 0.3-mile out-&-back birding trail that allows you to walk along Killbuck Creek and view wildlife on the water. Both of these sites have parking (bike racks coming soon!), they are also easily accessible by foot from Killbuck Village.
Brinkhaven Barrens
This 114-acre designated state nature preserve contains mixed oak woodland and two unique prairie savannah openings. It’s accessed from the Holmes County Trail below Baddow Pass.

Baker Wetland Preserve
Established in 2006, this preserve consists of 27-acres of swamp, Riparian woodland, and over one half mile of Killbuck stream frontage.
